PERFORMING ARTS
Performing Arts at Mandama
The vibrant and dynamic Performing Arts program at Mandama Primary School allows students to engage in a developmental dance, drama and music program for all year levels. The aim of the program is to foster imagination and creative thinking through all disciplines of Performing Arts while students work collaboratively with their peers.
During music lessons all students have the opportunity to read and write formal music notation and play on our extensive range of classroom instruments including a large range of percussion instruments, recorders, xylophones and ukuleles. Students celebrate and share their singing at our annual Christmas Concert and Final Assembly.
Dance lessons focus on fostering creativity, confidence and performance skills, this unit culminates in the annual School Concert which has a strong focus on story telling through dance. The concert is held in September each year at The Arena and involves all students from Prep to Year 6.
During drama lessons students are gradually introduced to different elements of story telling through drama with the use of props, including puppets and costume pieces. Students continue to develop confidence and critical and creative thinking skills through improvisation games, activities and scripted performances.

Outside of the classroom…
Our senior students have the opportunity to join our school Choir. This group is given the chance to share their talents within the school community and the wider community including visits to local kindergartens, aged care facilities and shopping centres.
The school also participates in the Victorian State School Spectacular, which sees our students rehearse and perform alongside 3000 other public school students at Melbourne Arena.
Students from year 3 upwards are also afforded the opportunity to participate in the Salvation Army’s ‘Just Brass’ program. Selected students are provided with an instrument, tuition and transportation and participation in band lessons with students from around Geelong.
Private music teachers visit the school and offer lessons in piano, voice and guitar. The school participates in the ‘Music Count Us In!’ program and Geelong Schools Music and Movement Festival.
