Digital Technology at Mandama
Mandama Primary School provides a 21st century learning approach by providing students with a Digital Technologies program. This program utilizes the incredible technology that Mandama has to offer with a range of devices to suit each year level. Students learn how Digital Technologies enables them to become confident and creative developers of digital solutions to real world problems. They gain a deeper knowledge of data and information and how they can use technology to meet current and future needs. Digital Technologies has three related strands: Digital Systems, Data and Information and Creating Digital Solutions.
Digital Systems teaches students about how different devices are made, the software they use and how online networks are creating and used.
Data and Information focuses on how digital data is collected, stored, and represented to solve real world problems and communicate ideas and information
Creating Digital Solutions explores how students can use their devices and online platforms to analyse, design, develop and evaluate digital solutions. It provides students with opportunities to discuss the possible benefits and potential risks of online learning.

In Foundation, students are introduced to Ipad devices and how to use them to help them learn. They use OMSO resources where real-world items are incorporated into gameplay which encourage interaction and collaboration. The different OSMO apps tapped into student’s curiosity and creativity to encourage hands-on problem-solving skills and social skills development.
In Grade's 3/4, students begin to discuss how data and information is collected and stored and how their devices can be used safely to enhance their learning. They are introduced to basic coding and how vital it is to give accurate step by step instructions for a Dash and Dot robot to follow your instructions. Students discuss and share how to stay safe online. They learn about how to keep their passwords and information safe and who they can speak to when they feel unsafe online.

In Grade's 1/2, students continue to use classroom Ipads and learn how to access their device, find an appropriate app for purpose and take a photo. They learn about the importance of closing all apps and how to responsibly look after devices. Students also use the OMSO resources and begin to develop visual spatial abilities, solve addition and subtraction problems in a creative and fun way and practice spelling, vocabulary and critical thinking. Students begin their introduction to coding using Blue Bot robots and OSMO coding.
In Grade's 5/6, students expand on their understandings of data and how it is used to store and enhance information. They are introduced to how digital programs and applications are created and the process involved for an application to end up on a device app store. Students begin learning about binary code and the language of computers and devices. They begin to use basic algorithms to create programs and learn about how to stay safe online.
